TEAM CAPTAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

ATTEND TEAM CAPTAIN MEETINGS 1-2 TIMES PER YEAR

Team captains act as their club's representative at any league meetings and will have one vote. Note: Teams with co-captains still only have one vote.

FIELD A TEAM EACH WEEK

Each club has a predetermined Team Captain. The Team Captain is responsible for fielding a team for each league day.  A suggested way to proceed would be to use the current handicap sheet and beginning with the lowest handicap, call potential players and assign their position until you have a team of three.  In the case of identical handicaps, use the index to determine position.  At this time, it might be a good idea to select an alternate so someone is available for last minute fill ins. Each club’s players MUST fill positions 1, 2, and 3 in ascending order of their handicaps.  In other words, a 10 handicap player cannot play in the #1 position while a 7 handicap player is in the #2 position, etc.

How each club fields a team is up to them.  Some clubs have weekly tryouts.  Others go by the handicap sheets. We anticipate that each team will need 5-8 total players available to fill the three player positions on any given week.

Any Club that is frequently unable to send a team of three players will be reviewed for continuing membership the following year.

SUBMIT A TEAM LINEUP EACH WEEK

Team captains must submit team lineups to the home page at www.twincityleague.com, NO LATER THAN THE WEDNESDAY PRIOR TO THE LEAGUE PLAY DATE.  This is extremely important since each club has to schedule caddies, prepare scorecards, create the overall league scoreboard, print cart signs, etc.

In the event of last minute drop outs or player changes (i.e., after the team names have been submitted to the host club), the following conditions will exist:

  • If a substitute player competes – she must play in the appropriate position according to her handicap.

    • For example: if the #1 player cannot play, the lowest handicap player will move up and fill Position 1,  the second lowest handicap will fill Position 2, and so on.

  • If no one substitutes – the team will receive zero points in that position(s).

    • For example: if the #1 player cannot play, the #2 player moves up to Position 1, the #3 player moves up to Position 2, and the team receives zero points at Position 3.

MONITOR BAD WEATHER EACH WEEK

Every effort will be made to determine if an event should be cancelled the night before - if/when a weather forecast is undeniable. However, the assumption is league will not be cancelled unless exceptional conditions exist (lightning, flooding, etc.).

In case of bad weather, please call the Host Club Pro Shop for information regarding course conditions and weather delays (rain, frost, etc.).  All captains should frequently check email if the weather forecast is awful. On a day of inclement weather, the League Administrator will be in touch with Team Captains (by email and/or text) in order to vote on whether they wish to play. Majority rules. Please have your team prepared to play. Please remember: it could be raining at your house, but it might not be at the Host Club. City League will be played in the rain from time to time!

If a course superintendent decides that no carts are allowed on the course, City League will be no longer be cancelled for that week.

Note: even in the case of bad weather, many courses still allow players to come out and walk and play (and lunch is usually still available, too).

HOST A CITY LEAGUE EVENT ONCE EVERY FOUR YEARS

This responsibility includes securing the assistance of the Pro Shop for preparing the score sheet, tallying team rankings, and posting scores to GHIN after the event.

The Team Captain will also assist the League Administrator in announcing event results and awarding the prizes to the 1st place gross and net (3 golf balls), 2nd place gross (2 golf balls) & 3rd place gross (1 golf ball) players in each position, including ties.

Some limited individual and team results should be reported to the StarTribune (preps@startribune.comand Pioneer Press (sports@pioneerpress.com).

Note: see the Hosting Duties page of this website for full details.
